Hon Hai Precision and Innolux are to invest NT$50 billion ($1.6 billion) in a joint venture 6G panel production plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to produce LTPS panels for smartphones. Sources suggest that the plant could have a monthly production capacity of 30,000-50,000 units.
The joint venture, which will be between Innolux and another of Hon Hai’s subsidiary companies, Tianyi Display Technology, will use a facility which was built by Innolux in 2008 but was idled because of financial constraints caused by the global financial crisis. Both companies said that negotiations were still at an early stage and did not elaborate on how the investment would be split, though it is has been suggested that Hon Hai is likely to take the majority stake.
