Holoride’s in-car VR gaming system leaves the track for the real world

What They Say

Engadget reported on the latest version of Holoride’s software for XR in moving vehicles. The system works by tapping into data from a vehicle and that data is used to drive an in-game experience that can be enjoyed on an XR headset that reflects the movements of the car. While demoes a couple of years ago were confined to a track at CES, the latest version was demonstrated in a car driving around the Mission District of San Francisco. The platform works on any headset, but the Holoride platform needs access to the car’s data. The firm, which is a spin-out from Audi, is working with Audi, Porsche, Mercedes and Ford.

Holoride provides its platform but is looking for partners to develop games.

What We Think

The reviewer said that the motion was good enough to avoid discomfort from the motion although he had previously had a lot of discomfort from trying to play games in cars. I can imagine parents paying quite a lot to keep their children occupied in the back seat on long journeys. Certainly, I would have done when mine were young! (BR)
