Hibino partners with ROE Visual for Virtual Production Studio in Japan

What They Say

LED supplier ROE Visiual said that it would work with Hibino Corp. to develop virtual production technology. Hibino’s studio will use Ruby RB1.5F LED panels in a 12m x 4m configuration. Additionally, Carbon CB5 is used for a LED ceiling and two side screens to fill-in lighting.

What We Think

I first met with Hibino at ISE in 2006. I remember the firm trying to persuade me that they made really, really good LED displays. The firm told me “We’re so good that we’re more expensive than Barco”. That was surprising to me. At the time, the firm had 3mm pitch displays, which were state of the art at the time at €150K/m².

I mentioned to someone at ISE last year that we hadn’t seen Hibino for a while – it looks as though the last time was 2015 according to our database. Checking out the web, the firm seems to still make LEDs, but only at 2mm and above, which could explain the deal with ROE. It’s really hard to compete with Chinese suppliers. It’s a good endorsement of ROE’s performance. (BR)
