What They Say
The GFU in Germany said that the Home Electronics Market Index (HEMIX) grew last year as the value of the market in Germany grew by 3% to more than €49 billion in 2021, up from €47.5 billion. The organisation points to the increased importance of the home as a place of work and leisure as a factor. It also said that higher ASPs in a number of segments reflected changes in buyer behaviour, with buyers going for higher specced products. ASPs rose 16.1% to €677 for TVs in 2021.
The average price of smartphones also rose again, by 11.2% to €555. Video game consoles recorded an average price increase of 13% to €362. All three PC categories (desktop PCs, notebooks, tablet PCs) also recorded between six and eleven percent higher average prices.
Privately used IT products recorded growth of 3.1% to more than €8.7 billion. In the PC segment, only the tablet PCs showed an increasing number of units and sales growth. Sales and turnover of desktop PCs and notebooks declined.
The CE segment had to accept a drop of 4.3% with sales of more than €8.9 billion. In the case of TVs, the number of units fell by 19.7% to just under 5.8 million, while sales fell by 6.8% to around €3.9 billion. The number of video game consoles increased by 5.1% to 2.2 million and the turnover by 18.7% to €813 million. A lack of availability prevented higher growth in that area the GFU said.
The article (in German) also covers audio and appliances.
What We Think
This is useful trend data. After years of prices falling, it’s good to see the CE market gaining better ASPs for its products. (BR)
