Helsingborg City Installs Network of Interactive Outdoor Digital Signage Kiosks

Zytronic, a leader in custom designed, high performance Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT™ and MPCT™) touch sensors, today announced that the Swedish city of Helsingborg has selected Infinitus digital signage kiosks based on its touch sensors for a network of interactive outdoor digital totems for residents and visitors to the city.

Helsingborg, with a population of 100,000, is a popular place to live and visit, not least because of its proximity to Copenhagen. The city authorities made a decision to create an outdoor network of 6 custom touch interactive digital totems to message citizens and help tourists find their way around. They needed custom designed units that would work reliably in the very cold Scandinavian winters, requiring the minimum of attention on-site after installation.

Helsingborg chose Infinitus “imotion” G6 kiosks, with a 47” touch screen based on Zytronic PCT™ touch screen technology. The touch screens in the units work reliably down to -40°C – well below the coldest recorded winter temperature in the city. The 2.000 nit luminance output super high bright LCD panel is designed to be easily readable in bright sunlight. The system is rugged and vandal proof, and is additionally protected with audio alarm and shock sensors. To increase audience engagement the units have an integrated Wi-Fi hot spot allowing users to connect to the internet, and either transfer data, or download kiosk contents to their mobile phones.

Johan Stegö , New business developer of Infab AB, Infinitus local partner, said, “The kiosks are being used to promote town activities, events, local business and tourist sights. An important feature is the regional wayfinding facility that helps residents and visitors alike to orientate themselves better, and access more complete information about options in the area.”

Dikran Tawitian, Marketing and Sales Director at Infinitus Outdoor, commented, “Customers expect a trouble free service life of at least five years from outdoor digital signage kiosks, regardless of the prevailing climate. We have been building outdoor LCD systems since 2004, and have standardised on Zytronic touch sensors because they are stable and reliable in a wide range of environmental conditions. They will also operate well through the toughened glass overlays we use to protect the totems against vandalism.”
