HDTV Test Likes the MSI 240Hz OLED Notebook for Gaming

What They Say

HDTVTest had a look at the new MSI Raider GR67 HX notebook which has a 240Hz QuadHD OLED which Vincent Teoh describes as having the best motion performance he has seen on any previous display. The 15.6″ panel is from Samsung Display and uses an RGB pixel structure that is similar to smartphone and has a glossy surface. (Samsung Display Unveils World’s First High Refresh Rate 240Hz OLED)

The tested maximum luminance was 380 cd/m² in SDR and 607 cd/m² (10% window) and 450 cd/m² (full field) in HDR. The PQ curve is slightly over-bright, but the test found some problems in getting HDR10 tracking and a good result in HDR. Bright uniformity was good, but there were some colour effects at wide viewing angles.

There is an MSICenter app which includes a number of features to minimise the chance of image retention. His test of a bright rectangle for 10 seconds showed a darker block after switching to black.

What We Think

Although there were issues in getting HDR mode to work in Windows, Teoh said that even in SDR, the image quality was “Stunning”. He also found that the OLED is always driven at 480Hz PWM. (BR)
