What They Say
WarnerMedia and Roku have agreed ‘after protracted negotiations’ that Roku users will be able to get access to HBO Max, the premium streaming service. The access will start from 17th December. Reuters reports that HBO Max has 12.6 million “activations” or users, compared to 86.8 million paid subscribers for Walt Disney Co’s Disney+ and 195.2 million for Netflix.
What We Think
This is one of those deals that had to be made at some point with neither side really able to walk away. Still, HBO Max is more appealling to me than Disney+! There was no talk of different access for different devices, so we’re assuming that the deal applies to sticks and Smart TVs using the Roku platform. (BR)
