What They Say
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who produces the influential ‘Power On’ subscription newsletter, has summarised his view that the new MacBook Pro is a good step forward for genuinely Pro users of Apple’s notebooks, after the previous version in 2016 was ‘absolutely forgettable’. Improvements he like include:
- Better balance of form and function – it’s slightly heavier and thicker, but has better performance an battery life.
- The OLED-based ‘Touch Bar is gone’ and a hardware ‘Escape key’ is back (fixed in 2019)
- Better keyboard than 2016
- Ports for SD and HDMI back, although he points out that the SD slot is slower than the ‘state of the art’ at 250 MB per second and HDMI is only 2.0
- Magsafe 3 is back
He does not have a problem with the ‘notch’.
Gurman also believes that the next MacBook Air is 6 to 8 months away and will be a significant upgrade on the current one.
What We Think
NotebookCheck also reported on the way that Apple uses the ‘notch’ on the set. The module includes a 1080p camera, TrueTone sensor, ambient light sensor, and a camera status LED (see image below) (BR)
