Google is planning to release its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in its usual launch month of October, if the rumour mill is to be believed. Leaked images of the Pixel 3 XL have revealed that it will feature a narrow bezel and notch design similar to the iPhone X.
Between XDA Forums and 9to5Google, the images have more-or-less been confirmed as real, thanks to a specific logo that Google is known to apply to its prototype hardware.
It was recently revealed that the updated Android P operating system will add support for devices with notch designs. Meanwhile, it’s been said that the smaller Pixel 3 won’t feature the notch or the slim bezel, bearing more of a likeness to its predecessor.
Not much else is known from a technical perspective, except that the Pixel 3 XL will feature a 6.2″ display, but the images do also reveal that, curiously, it features a dual-lens front-facing camera but only a single lens in its primary camera.
Other rumours suggest that Google may be preparing not two, but three smartphones for a 2018 release — some say a super-premium model to rival the iPhone X Plus, others say a cheaper, mid-range device to rival the successor to the iPhone SE.
Earlier this year, Google and HTC closed a deal which saw 2,000 of HTC’s staff transfer over to Google’s smartphone division.
