In separate news stories, there was good news and bad news for Qualcomm over the holiday. on the bad news side the company got a fine of $865 million for ‘abuse of market dominance’ bu the Korean Fair Trade Commission over actions that it said were unfair in not licensing certain patents and coercing unfair licence agreements using chipset supply for leverage. Qualcomm said that it would appeal.
Separately, the company said that it had prevailed in a patent dispute with Meizu in China, but also covering Germany, France and the US.The company regarded the deal as important as it had asked Chinese authorities to enforce an earlier settlement that it had reached in China and the company said that it shows that it can enforce its ip.
