Global handset panel shipments were 2.93 billion, up 4.9% YoY, according to a recent report from Shanghai, China-based Cinno Research. Of these 2.11 billion were for smartphones, up 16.4%, while the remaining 820 million were for feature phones, down 16.1%.
Century Technology of China was the leading supplier with shipments of 399 million (13.6% of the handset panel market), with 37.7% market share of feature phones. Samsung was next with 370 million smartphone use AMOLED panels (99.2% of the total of this type) giving it 17.5% of the smartphone panel market. They were followed by BOE (362 million and 17.1% of the market), HannStar (298 million) and CPT (283 million).
By smartphone technology, LTPS shipments were up 13.7% to 610 million and AMOLED shipments were up 41.2% to 373 million. The rest were almost all a-Si.
