GFU Surveys German Consumers on TV

The GFU in Germany has released the results of a couple of surveys of Germany consumers, covering their appreciation of marketing terms in TV and the plans for the change to DVB-T2.

The first study asked 2,000 consumers about terms being used by brands in the TV market. Smart TV is well understood and 95% of consumers know the term. 64% of sets sold in Germany in 2016 were Smart TVs. 82% know about video or movies on demand. However 42% of consumers do not understand what UltraHD means, although this number reduces to 32% if the 4K term is used. 48% of consumers have heard of HDR and 46% have heard of OLEDs.

Turning to DVB-T2, the second generation of digital terrestrial TV, 80% of consumers understand that term, even though only 9% of viewers were affected by the change from DVB-T in standard definition to DVB-T2 in HD. The GFU also asked about plans. The result suggests that most viewers are happy with what they have at the moment.
