Sigmaintell Research has forecast that the trend to 18:9 format smartphones will continue, reaching 61% of the market in 2018 (0.9 billion) by volume.
Looking by technology, AMOLED FullView displays will have hit 30% of the market in 2017, the analyst expects, but will be getting close to 100% by 2020. A-si panels will have the lowest penetration, as would be expected as that is the lowest cost technology and is only in entry-level devices. The technology is also difficult if you want narrow bezels, which will limit the support for 18:9.
