‘Light therapy’ is an important means for promoting the healing of wounds, especially in the epidermis (skin). Fraunhofer FEP has been examining flexible OLEDs as an area light source for applications in the medical sector, one of which is light therapy. For the first time, the cytocompatibility (cell compatibility) of flexible OLED systems has been evaluated in a pilot study. Fraunhofer has published the results, which it describes as ‘promising’, in a white paper.
