Foxconn has announced its entry into the augmented reality (AR) glasses market through a collaboration with Porotech. The partnership focuses on applying Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology to further develop MicroLED displays. Porotech, PSMC, and GIS also contributed to establishing an 8-inch platform for MicroLED applications in 2024, achieving a reduction in pixel size to 1.25μm by the end of the year.
According to Porotech, this technological development supports the mass production of MicroLEDs, which are expected to be applied in 2025 for AR glasses and other high-resolution displays. Porotech also underscored the advantages of Foxconn’s vertical integration, PSMC’s manufacturing expertise, and GIS’s display-technology capabilities in advancing MicroLED’s position in the AR and high-performance display markets.
