Foxconn and Sharp Combine for Smartphones

Foxconn and Sharp will team up to drive Sharp’s presence in the smartphone market, according to press reports.

The Economic Daily News revealed that under a new internal agreement, the two companies will form a team of more than 4,000 staff, across research and development, manufacturing, marketing, brand and supply chain management and after-sale services.

The Sharp Z3 was released earlier this year. The handset features a 1440 x 2560 LCD touch screen and a 16-megapixel, f/2.0 rear-facing camera.

The new team will be focused on the development and sales of mobile devices, primarily smartphones, according to the report, which cited executive director of FIH Mobile, head of Foxconn smartphone brand InFocus and head of Sharp’s smartphone business in China, Luo Zhongsheng.

The report also states that Sharp is aiming to become one of the top five global smartphone manufacturers, and is planning to unveil a line of all-screen smartphones for sale in China and “other markets”.
