What They Say
EINNews quoted Counterpoint Research data on weekly sales of smartphones in the US which highlighted that 12% of Samsung’s total smartphone sales came from foldable smartphones. That is up from 0.6% of sales in 2020 when the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was launched. The research also highlighted that Samsung Electronics’ smartphone sales have also increased by 9 per cent over the past 2 months since the launch of Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 this year from last year’s foldable model sales.
An analyst at Counterpoint said that “These two new models released in August this year saw record sales by surpassing 2 million units by the end of September”.
What We Think
Hmmm… 12% of Samsung’s smartphone sales (even if just by revenue) in the US suggests that the foldable handsets are getting beyond a niche in the US.
Counterpoint said a week or so ago that the US smartphone market grew 1% in volume from 2021, with Motorola the brand profiting most from LG’s withdrawal. (BR)
