Manchester Pilots Super Bus Shelter

JCDecauxClose to Manchester Piccadilly rail station is a pilot “super” bus shelter – the first in the UK. The comfortable state-of-the-art shelter has free charging points and wifi, and digital touchscreens provide news and information on travel and the city. The roof is wide and planted, so absorbing pollution and providing a pleasant aspect to upstairs bus passengers looking down.

JCDecaux worked with transport for Greater Manchester to develop the shelter in a £300,000 pilot scheme which was funded by the Department for Transport. The grant was made with the aim of reducing congestion and pollution, and increasing active travel. The idea is to see if improved public transport environments will encourage more people to use it.
