Epistar’s semiconductor foundry business became a wholly-owned subsidiary called Epistar Semiconductor on October 1st, and the company says it plans to spin off its mini LED research and development unit in January 2019.
The company said turning its semiconductor foundry unit into a separate business was part of its commitment to professional services and better resource allocation, with a view to boosting revenue, profit and return on investment.
According to Digitimes, Epistar’s miniLED unit will become Yen-Rich Technology, headed up by ex-Epistar president Dr. Ming-Jiunn Jou, who stepped down in July after ten years in the role to focus on the new venture. Ex-VP Patrick Fan has taken his place. Like its new semiconductor business, Yen-Rich Technology will be wholly owned by Epistar.
