Epistar has announced that it is modifying a proportion of its MOCVD equipment, from 4″ to 6″ during the first quarter of 2018, in preparation to begin production of vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) wafers and diodes and mini-LEDs.
The company has said that it anticipates 3D sensing and mini-LED backlighting will be the major drivers behind VCSEL growth in 2018. Samples have apparently been sent to potential clients, with production expected to begin in the third quarter of the year.
