eMagin Raises OLED Efficiency

Details of eMagin’s final R&D contract – part of the $6.8 million awarded to the company last month (Display Monitor Vol. 21 No 41) – have been announced. $750,000 will go towards the development of ‘an advanced backplane technology’ for the company’s OLED microdisplays. The funding comes from the US Army’s RDECOM CERDEC Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate Science and Technology Division and Naval Air Systems Command. The contract will be fulfilled over 11 months. Andrew Sculley, eMagin CEO, said that the new backplane will enable more than a 30% reduction in power consumption.
