The 2022-23 EISA Awards were announced with, this year, eight different TV categories, but with the 8K TV category dropped. Samsung did not feature in the list of brands and FlatPanelsHD pointed out that TCL has a more advanced miniLED model than the 65C835 that won the award.

What We Think

The EISA Awards are very important for the TV brands in Europe. The process was run for 16 years by our good friend Jorge Gonçalves in Portugal, but he stopped a little while ago because of organisational changes.

In the past, there was no requirement for brands to fund the process or make applications to be included, but at press time, I hadn’t been able to see if this had changed, although the organisation’s website does not specify any payments being needed. A shortlist is made of sets tested by CE magazines and publishers (with at least five tests of each model) and then all the members of the panel for the category make a final vote. Trusted Reviews reported that the Samsung S95B QD-OLED TV was named runner-up to Sony in the best Premium OLED TV category, although we couldn’t find confirmation of this.

It seems a retro-grade step to drop the 8K TV category. Certainly, Samsung should have done well there. (BR)
