Edeka Shows off Digital Signage at New Marktkauf Store

As part of its digitisation strategy, Edeka Minden-Hannover is steadily expanding its digital signage infrastructure, together with Nexgen Smart Instore. The new Marktkauf hypermarket in Meppen, Germany, with an area of around 7,500m², is the partnership’s latest joint project.

A total of nine digital signage systems, some with different functions, have been installed in the store. To ensure optimum presentation of offers, services and general information, 55″ displays have been installed in the entrance area, the fruit and vegetable department, and the meat and cheese counters.

A virtual specialty shelf that can be operated via a touch display is designed to offer customers a special shopping experience in the spirits department. A collaboration between the two companies and Online Software AG, a terminal has been developed which offers gin, rum and whiskey-lovers the opportunity to access interactive product information on spirits.

Two fully mirrored displays equipped with infrared sensors have also been used. The systems have been placed in the clothing department and the customer toilets. While the displays initially act as advertising space, as soon as the infrared sensor detects movement within a radius of one metre, the system automatically fades out the advertising content and the displays can be used as mirrors.
