Automotive touch panels are now almost standard, despite safety concerns about operation whilst driving, according to IHS Markit. Touch panel shipments for automotive use are expected to be over 50 million in 2017, up 11% YoY. The previously dominant resistive touchscreens are set to be overtaken by capacitive ones. The shift towards interactive screens and the higher volume of displayed data is driving the need for higher resolution, bigger screens and non-standard shaped screens.
