What They Say
Following the comments that E Ink’s latest Kaleido 3 colour EPD technology could support video and animations, we reached out to the firm which confirmed that the new panels can support ‘about 8-9 frames per second’. (E Ink Launches E Ink Kaleido 3)
What We Think
8-9 fps might well be quite useful for animations but I suspect that video is unlikely to be very satisfying at that kind of frame rate, especially as I would expect the rise and fall times to be quite long even if 8 or 9 frames could be shown, so the display is likely to look ‘smeary’, I think. However, as the saying has it, “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” and I hope to “eat this pudding” by seeing the new technology at Display Week. It will be shown later this month at Touch Taiwan. (BR)
