What They Say
E Ink said that Ricoh has developed a ‘digital white board’ based on the EPD display technology. The unit is 42″ in diagonal and is just 14.5mm thick and weighs 5.9kg. The E Ink Carta display has touch facilities and the experience is said to be like paper for writing. The unit is ultra-low power so can be easily moved and can run from a battery. It is water and dust proof
At the moment, the unit will only be sold in Japan.
What We Think
This unit looks appealing for some applications. However, it will, surely, be a niche product as it cannot support colour or video display – features that are routinely expected on large displays. Of course, the key advantage of this kind of product is being able to connect to a network and share content. When I last met Ricoh at Infocomm in 2018, it emphasised its networking and collaboration technology. (BR)
