What They Say
Invidis is going ahead with its DSS Europe 2021 event which will take place in Munich Airport on 29th and 30th September. There will be an exhibition, as before and the space has been increased to allow up to 500 attendees. Delegates will have to be vaccinated or tested. The event will include a social evening in the brewery in the airport.
Separately, sixteen-nine.net reported that the US Digital Signage Expo would go ahead from March 21st to 23rd in Las Vegas, concurrently with the ‘Bar & Restauarant Expo’.
What We Think
The social evening is usually good although one year I felt terrible the next morning. It wasn’t (just) the beer; the event took place on the same day as the Brexit vote, so I awoke to the terrible news and lots and lots of comments and questions from delegates. Sadly, the talks at the event have been much more about software in recent years, so I gradually found it less essential to be there, although when we had a market research business, I could usually combine the event with a visit to clients in Munich. I doubt I’ll make it this year.
For those that can’t quite get their heads around having a microbrewery in an airport a) the airport sees itself as a destination location, even if you aren’t flying and b) it’s Bavaria. I remember some fifteen years or so being invited to go to lunch in the Fujitsu Siemens building in Munich (the HQ was in Augsburg). Beer was served with lunch, which was unusual and when I commented, I was told that ‘in Munich, beer is legally classified as food’, so that was the only office globally where the custom was adopted. Prost! (BR)
