DSCC Shows Large Drop in 2023 Display Equipment Spending

What They Say

DSCC reported that it has seen a number of fab expansion projects delayed and a few cancelled. The firm has revised its forecast for 2023 spending down 57% to $5.3 billion. Most of the drop will be in LCD which will drop 70% to $1.9 billion and OLEDs down to $3.4 billion.

Over 2020-2025, the firm has reduced its forecast for spending by 6% to $71 billion.

What We Think

I said a few weeks ago that I was glad I had never been in the equipment business. I really don’t know how you can manage this level of ‘feast and famine’ in a technical industry that needs skilled and highly qualified staff. I wonder if equipment companies will have special arrangements to get over this potential fall in cash flow.

I look forward to getting a really good smell of the state of the industry next Monday at the Business Conference of Display Week. (BR)
