What They Say
DSCC published some highlight data from its latest report on miniLEDs (registration required). It forecast that miniLED units will rise to 40.6 million by 2026 from 9.8 million in 2021. Apple is expected to continue to dominate the market for miniLED-based products and is reported to be switching to Chinese suppliers to reduce its costs. Vertical integration of miniLED BLUs will also help drive cost down.
Taiwanese companies are reported to be developing miniLED LCDs for notebooks with fewer zones and LEDs to help with cost reduction and extend the range of price segments that miniLED can enter. That will mean that notebooks will become the largest application for miniLED.
What We Think
As DSCC said last month (DSCC Report Reveals Advanced Notebooks Rose 629% in 2021 to 8.2M – Apple Led Q4’21 with a 54% Share) that OLED will grow faster than miniLED as more capacity comes online after 2023 in the notebook market. (BR)
