Disney has announced that its subscription streaming service will launch in 2019, at a price “substantially cheaper” than Netflix.
This isn’t unexpected, given the fact that Disney’s library of content, while of the highest quality, will be significantly smaller than that offered by Netflix. Disney’s streaming library will include its back catalogue of animated and live-action films. The service will also host titles made by Disney-owned studios Pixar, Marvel and LucasFilm, including the Star Wars franchise.
Disney’s current streaming deal with Netflix expires at the end of 2018.
