Directable Lowers Signage Costs With Sony

A digital signage application called Directable, running on Android, has been launched for Sony’s smart TVs. The app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play store, is intended to turn a consumer TV into a signage screen. An online slide builder and playlist builder are included, as is scheduling, remote control, system monitoring and multi-user access.

This will have some popularity in the entry-level signage market, and occasional users – those that don’t need a 12/7 or 24/7 screen, with multiple redundancies and built-in media players. However, there is a reason that dedicated signage displays exist; the mid-range and high-end markets have nothing to fear from these apps, while consumer TVs remain limited on operating time, brightness output and other specifications.
