Direct TV Launches Satellite for 4K/UHD Transmission

Direct TV is launching Direct TV 14 the latest satellite in its line-up and the one to bring 4K/UHD broadcast to subscribers. The satellite will be launching on December 4th from French Guiana with Arianespace. The geo-stationary satellite will cover the Indian market and carry the local 4K/UHD signal.

DirecTV-14 uses Ka-band and the new technology of ‘Reverse’ DBS signals. This new technology reverses the up and downlink frequencies, thereby creating more bandwidth. Since the uplink is achieved by highly focused beams, this should not lead to any interference.

The next satellite, Direct TV 15, will be launching later in 2015 and may cover part of the US.
