Digitimes Research Reports Rising Notebook Shipments in May

According to Digitimes Research, the top five global notebook brands (not including Apple) and top three global ODMs saw month-on-month shipment growth in May, thanks to an increase in orders from the North American education sector and availability of passive components.

The report reveals that the notebook brands in question saw shipment growth of 32% month-on-month and 8% year-on-year in May.

In terms of individual companies, HP achieved shipment growth of 50%, the largest of the month, with Lenovo and Dell swapping places, coming in second and third respectively. Meanwhile, the top three ODMs saw a combined month-on-month growth of 26% in May. Quanta Computer saw the largest growth of the three — not much of a coincidence, considering its partnership with HP.

Digitimes Research says that this growth was partially due to vendors buying in extra stock in anticipation of inventory problems due to the ongoing component shortages.
