Digitimes Research has estimated that global monitor shipments reached approximately 120 million units in 2017, down 3.4% year-on-year, while global notebook shipments are believed to have risen to over 150 million units in 2017 after five years in decline. Monitors are expected to decline to 107 million by 2022, a CAGR of -2.2%.
Digitimes Research analysts also predicted that global notebook shipments will grow by a further 2.7% in 2018, up to 160 million units, but painted a less positive long-term picture by estimating a negative CAGR of 2%, dropping to 140 million units by 2022. The emergence of AI, AR and flexible display technologies was given as the reason for the decline.
