Digitimes Research has released preliminary quarterly shipment numbers for the notebook market. According to its data, the global market for notebook computers (excluding 2-in-1 computers) showed an increase of 6.4% sequentially and 2.6% year on year. Digitimes sees HP (21%) as being slightly ahead of Lenovo (20.9%), Dell (12.5%), Acer (9.7%) and Apple (8.5%). The total notebook market reached 45.2 million units in the third quarter of 2014.
The Taiwanese ODM’s shipped 37 million units or almost 82% of the world demand. Looking at the size breakdown of the ODM shipments, 14″ notebooks and above account for over 75% of the market. The largest market segment is the 15″ class with 47% market share. – Norbert Hildebrand
