A roadmap by Digitag shows that 8k TV could be in place on Europe’s DTT platforms by 2023. The ‘Roadmap for the Evolution of DTT’ report (http://tinyurl.com/o42y8xf) predicts that consumers will see a transition to new standards taking 3-12 years, or 3-6 years in early adopter markets. The move will be to a combination of DVB-T2, MPEG4/HEVC and SDTV/HDTV/UltraHDTV. The move to a third profile (HDTV, UltraHD and 8k) will take place between 2023 and 2030.
Digitag also says that the DTT platform is under threat from the plans for a reallocation of the 700MHz band; the organisation believes that average capacity will be cut by about 30%.

This is an interesting topic, but we didn’t get a chance to cover the report in detail. It is a long term report so we’ll come back with more details later. (BR)
