Did Apple Just Kill the 27-inch iMac?

What They Say

MacWorld pointed out that not only did Apple not announce a new 27″ iMac based on its own M1 silicon, it also removed references to the previous Intel-based version from its website. The 24″, which is based on the M1 chip, is still on the site. Units are available on the Apple Refurbished and Clearance store.

The site points out that anybody wanting a 27″ iMac based on Apple silicon is out of luck for the moment and at least is likely to have a long wait.

What We Think

Given the high price of the 27″ Studio Monitor, perhaps an integrated system would have just been too expensive. The apparent discontinuation does suggest why the Studio Monitor has good camera and audio performance as these are items that would have been delivered by a new 27″ iMac.

Like a lot of Apple products, second hand and refurbished versions often retain their value quite well. (BR)
