DIC Corporation Acquires PCAS Canada to Boost Photoresist Material Production

DIC Corporation, an international chemicals company, has completed the acquisition of PCAS Canada, a producer of polymers used in photoresists for semiconductor photolithography. The acquired entity has been renamed Innovation DIC Chemitronics Inc. in line with the company’s strategy for expanding its photoresist material lineup.

Photoresist is a photosensitive material that plays a critical role in the production of semiconductors and displays. It is coated on a substrate to protect specific areas, and light is then used to transfer a pattern from an optical mask to the coated substrate.

Semiconductor photolithography relies heavily on photoresist materials, which are pivotal in the formation of intricate electronic circuits on silicon wafers. Photoresist polymers, a main component of photoresists, facilitate the creation of these detailed patterns, enabling the manufacturing of complex electronics devices.

PCAS Canada, based southeast of Montreal, has a proven track record of mass production and delivery of high-purity, low-metal-content photoresist materials, prerequisites for semiconductor photolithography.
