Dell Adds an HDR Monitor

What They Say

Dell has announced new monitors including a new UltraSharp 32 HDR PremierColor Monitor (UP3221Q) which has a miniLED backlight with 2K dimming zones, 99.8% of DCI P3 colour gamut and support for VESA’s DisplayHDR 1000 label scheme. It has an integrated Calman Powered colorimiter. It will sell for $5,000 from November 5th.

The company also has 24″ (U2421E 1920 x 1200 16:10 $449) and 34″ (U3421W 3440 x 1440 curved 21:9 $1,199) IPS monitors with USB Type C support including 90W of Power Delivery. There are three new P series monitors, a 27″ (P2721Q) with UltraHD resolution and USB Type C, the P3221D 32″ 2560 x 1440 (QuadHD) and P3421W 34″

What We Think

This looks like a very attractive monitor for video and imaging creatives, although with only 93% of AdobeRGB, it’s not targetted at print professionals. The price will be a barrier for many, but that will only come down with time. I’m tempted to talk to Dell’s PR about a review model, but it may be hard to send it back 🙂 USB Type-C with PD was rapidly gaining popularity even before the pandemic, but it’s a great solution as even more of the world moves to supporting notebook use everywhere.
