CSOT place orders for equipment to use in LCD production

What They Say

The Elec reports that CSOT has placed orders for equipment to allow the manufacture of Oxide TFT LCDs at its forthcoming T9 G8.6 (2250 x 2600mm) fab in Guangzhou. They will be used for IT panels. South Korean equipment makers Charm Engineering, Top Engineering and DMS have won orders for the project so far.

The fab is reported to have two phases – 99K substrates in the first and 81K in the second which are due to come on line in 2023, to full ramp in early 2024 and 2025, respectively.

What We Think

Oxide has long been seen as the next generation of TFT for LCD, but it has proved quite tricky to introduce and taken longer than many expected. However, there are real advantages in transistor perforrmance that can be turned into panel specification improvements such as refresh rates and power consumption. (BR)
