Chunghwa Picture Tubes’ (CPT) president, Lin Sheng-chang, has been quoted as saying that the unstable global economy and falling demand for notebook and monitor panels will lead to a weak third quarter for the company. However, CPT is seeing strong growth in demand for car displays.
The company expects revenue from automotive displays this quarter to grow 10-15% sequentially and to maintain that level into next quarter, bringing total car display shipments this year to around 12 million units, 14% higher than 2014. Lin said that new customer product launches in the final quarter of the year are expected to help improve CPT’s business. He also confirmed that the company is going ahead with the construction of new G6 facilities in Fujian, China in Q3’15, with mass production scheduled for the second half of 2017 (CPT to Build 6G Plant in Fujian).
