Corning Sees Good Revenue from Automotive Displays

What They Say

Corning took part in a conference reported by Seeking Alpha and said that it thought there were potential revenues of up to $25 per car from glass used in instrument panels and consoles as it sees its 3D ColdForm technology as making life easier for car makers to use different displays. An advantage for the firm is that the technology is agnostic to the type of display used although flexible OLEDs may allow more creative designs. The company also thinks that another $30 could be earned from other technical glass.

It also sees opportunity from increasing network connectivity in cars, which has already gone from around a third in 2019 to around half now. It saw the first cars with 5G connectivity arriving in 2020.

What We Think

Corning highlights the lower use of energy in cold-forming compared to hot forming. The ColdForm glass has to be tough and thin at the same time. (BR)
