46 million internet homes in the USA now own a connected TV device, according to the NPD Group, equal to about half of all households. Smart TVs are a driver: 45% of TVs sold in the USA in Q2 were smart models, up from 34% in Q2’14 and 24% in Q2’13. The rate of internet connection also rose, to 69% (up from 61% in Q2’14 and 45% in Q2’13). The rise in available premium services and programming, as well as more user-friendly smart TV UIs, were cited as additional growth drivers.
