Commercial Flat Panel Display Volume Up 20.1% Year-on-year, Projection Flat

What They Say

Hat tip to Dave Haynes at sixteen-nine.net for spotting a release from Futuresource that reported that while projection grew by 0.2% year on year in 2021, flat panel commercial displays grew 20.1%. The analyst said that

  • Projector sales are still 30% lower than before the pandemic and mainstream B2B and short throw B2B are unlikely to reach those peaks again.
  • The firm sees potential for projection in Eastern Europe, LATAM and South-East Asia, while funding for education in the US is helping IFPD growth
  • Brands that have invested in large venue and installation did better in 2021
  • There is a shift back to interest in digital signage post-pandemic.

There is a small ebooklet that can be downloaded (with registration) from the link. The conclusions and recommendations are quite general.

What We Think

The renewed interest in digital signage reflects what I heard at BETT last week. Consumer projection also did well last year as consumers spent their money on cinema experiences at home. There was some doubt that this will continue in 2022 as I found at BETT. If you are involved in projection, you might be interested in the information that we heard from ViewSonic on its new LED projector at BETT. The article will be published later today.
