Christmas Buying Plans Revealed in Germany

What They Say

The GfU in Germany said that it expects a boost to spending still, over the Christmas period, because of bonuses at this time of year. The group used YouGov to survey consumers in Germany to check how willing buyers are in this difficult year of rising prices. Nearly half say that they are ‘immune to special offers’ but 18% are ‘bargain hunters’ that look for deals to decide when to buy, whether they are for themselves of for gifts.

19% of those surveyed is cutting back this year because of financial pressures.

The products that are desired are ‘the classics’:

  • Smartphones
  • TVs
  • Notebooks
  • Tablets

as well as smartwatches, vacuum cleaners and robots. Game consoles are also high on the list. Power consumption concerns are encouraging new home appliance purchases and a new item this year is the ’emergency power generator’.
