Christie Claims First UST Laser Projector

Christie has introduced its ‘Captiva’ series – apparently the world’s first solid-state projectors with an ultra-short throw ratio and more than 3,000 lumens of brightness.

First seen at Infocomm this year, the DHD400S (1920 x 1080) and DUW3505 (1920 x 720) are installation projectors, for medium and large venues. Because they use a laser-phosphor light source (lasting up to 20,000 hours), they can be used in portrait or landscape orientations. A 1DLP engine drives the models. They can be operated 24/7.

Both models feature HDMI (x2), VGA (x2 optional), composite, USB-A, RS232 and RJ45 inputs. The USB port can be used to add a wireless dongle. They are compatible with Crestron Roomview, PJ Link and AMX networking systems. Throw ratio is 0.25:1 and contrast ratio is 1,800:1. The units measure 383 x 310 x 103mm, and weigh 5.5kg.

Brightness is 3,100 lumens on the DHD400S, and 2,700 lumens on the DUW3505. They can throw an 80″ – 100″ or 120″ – 140″ image, respectively.

Christie will begin selling the projectors in October, but does not share prices.
