Hat-tip to Sixteen-Nine.net for a pointer to the 150 Media Stream in Chicago, which is a 127′ (38.7m) LED display up to 19′ (5.8m) high, for an area of more than 3,000 sq ft (280 m²). The configuration is made of 89 separate LED columns of varying height and width that allow artists to develop content that is unlike traditional rectangular spaces. The LED pitch is 3.5mm.
The display is used for purely artistic purposes, with no commercials or other promotional materials. The content is automatically changed and modified but can also be creatively modified and the system can pull in data feeds. There is a podcast here for more background on the concept.
