Osterhout Design Group (ODG) was at the show with prototypes of its ODG Glasses that border on VR but are really Augmented Reality (AR) with an eye toward serving the enterprise market and augmented reality and recording they need in field service operations. They showed the R-7 model featuring a 30-degree FOV (field of view) and a new prototype with extended 50-degree FOV and 1080p display. The R-7 is that company’s seventh generation device and boasts 3GB of RAM and NVIDIA Snapdragon 805 processor selling for $2,750 (not for your gamer or consumer.) The next generation will be a “Theatrical version” feature 2X the field of view, anamorphic wide screen cinema (2.3.9:1) aspect or “…22:9 as some like to put it, plus 60 frames per second / eye in full 3D,” according to ODG’s CTO, John Haddick. He spoke to us at their CES 2016 booth.
