Central Glass, a Japanese firm, has developed a way to deliver sharp projected images on windows.
The company creates glass that can serve as a projection screen, by baking diamond particles into the surface. These particles are processed by another Japanese firm called Vision Development. Because diamond has a high ability to refract light, images projected onto this surface are said to be clearer than on regular glass – including from projectors positioned laterally.
Central Glass says that its approach – even though it uses diamond! – is less costly than coating windows with special films. The company hopes to be selling the material to the mass market by 2020, in time for the Tokyo Olympics.
