A new scaler for digital signage LED videowalls was released by Calibre UK. The LEDView325DS is designed to be cost-effective while also providing high-quality scaling (CEO Tim Brooksbank is particularly outspoken on this topic). It is a hardware-based solution, not software, providing image resizing along each edge, independently.
Per-input colour calibration is also a feature, providing users with control over RGB gains and blacks, as well as saturation and hue. The scaler will be available later this year.
Calibre was also promoting a new virtual-ASIC processor, capable of scaling, switching and otherwise enhancing 4k and UltraHD formats. It is based on Altera’s field-programmable gate arrays, and will be offered as Calibre Pro-AV products.
